Ely & District CAMRA - September News Welcome to this update of what's happening in Ely & District Branch CAMRA

Ely Branch Committee… seeking more members! Your branch committee are all members who volunteer. We do so because we, like you, are passionate about having real ale, real cider and excellent pubs and clubs in our branch area. We enjoy it and think you may well too! If you want to join us, or just find out what is involved, please email us. Our open roles include Pub Protection Officer, Rural Pubs Officer, Socials Secretary, Cider Representative, and Public Affairs. We would also welcome general committee members.

Upcoming Dates for Ely & District CAMRA Join us for our next Ely & District CAMRA social! We will be giving our custom to the West End Pub on 7 October at 1900. Our socials are casual and fun, and all CAMRA members are welcome! Best of all, if it's your first social, the first pint is on us!

Elysian Winter Beer Festival Interest Meeting There will be a beer festival interest meeting on 25 September at 1930 at the Prince Albert. Please join us to learn more about how you can help at the Elysian Winter Beer Festival on 5-7 February, 2026!

Norwich Beer Festival Outing We will visit the Norwich Beer Festival as a group for their CAMRA member preview on 27 October from 1600. We will be taking the 1437 train from Ely station. CAMRA members may enter for free but they are suggesting to pre-book your spot, festival glass, and beer tokens. More info will be released by Norwich CAMRA soon!

Cask Ale Week - 18 to 28 September! Cask Ale Week is coming up! This annual celebration of cask beer takes place from 18 to 28 September with tons of events and specials all over the country. Later this month, on the lookout at your Ely local for a special leaflet from Ely CAMRA featuring a map of cask ale destinations in Ely and East Cambridgeshire! Locally, the Dyke’s End Beer Festival in Reach will take place from 18 to 21 September and will feature 12 hand-picked East of England ales and ciders. In Godmanchester, Hunt CAMRA will host their annual Booze on the Ouse festival at the Comrades Club from 18 to 20 September with 63 real ales, keg beers, and ciders as well as live music. You can find more information including a map of events on the Cask Ale Week website!

Adopt a Pub Program Turn your visits to your favourite pubs into action for Ely CAMRA - adopt a pub on behalf of CAMRA! With Ely’s large number of city and rural pubs its hard for our small committee to keep track of and support all of the pubs in our district. That’s where you come in! By adopting a pub, you can make sure CAMRA stays apprised of news and events for your pub and you can make sure the pub knows all of the ways that CAMRA can support them. Pubs with great community engagement and high standards for real ale should be recognized - with your help we can make sure all great pubs are supported! Contact Megan at ku.gro.armac.yle@yraterceS if you are interested in adopting a pub.

Beer Scoring Many thanks to all CAMRA members who have been scoring their beers recently. It helps us to monitor pubs so please score the beers you drink whether they be good, mediocre or poor. Beer scoring is easy to do via the pub’s CAMRA website entry - click here for an example! If you have a smart phone you can score while you drink. If not, you can do it from home later. Your beer scores help us to discover which pubs are serving the best beer and also helps in selecting candidates for the Good Beer Guide. CAMRA’s website can also be used to give us feedback on pubs. If you spot that the pub description is inaccurate or the opening hours are wrong, click on “Suggest an edit” and let us know.

News & Events Submissions Please email us about real ale news and events that you’d like to have listed in the monthly news!
